PRESS RELEASE - SEBEV Search & Rescue Team
“2010 was a busy year for SEBEV Search & Rescue Team”
Date: 07-01-11
SEBEV Ref: 070111-1
Berkshire based Lowland Search & Rescue charity ‘SEBEV’ has today published their end of year statistics for 2010 and it has proved to be a busy year.
In total the 47 strong team of unpaid volunteers (individually known as Search Technicians) gave 6798hrs of their time in callouts, training and events throughout the year.
Over the year the team was called for assistance on 43 separate occasions, many of these were calls from the Police for vulnerable missing person searches however a small number were also to provide 4x4 assistance to the Local Authorities during the recent heavy snowfall. The team also took part in 67 training exercises ranging from First Aid to Search Techniques, Rescue, Communications, Search Management and many others.
Kris Manning, Team Chairman, said “This is a staggering amount of hours contributed by volunteers in their own time to provide a lifesaving service to the communities of Berkshire. Our members can get called out by the Police at any time of the day or night and in any weather to search for vulnerable missing persons such as children or those with dementia. They give much of their time to training and development and are professionals in everything but pay. Lowland Search & Rescue teams such as ours are the best kept secret in emergency services circles. Unlike Mountain Search & Rescue teams the work we do gets very little publicity but is every bit as vital. ”
SEBEV Search & Rescue is a founder member of the national coordinating body ALSAR (Association of Lowland Search & Rescue) and is responsible for SAR provision to Berkshire (under Thames Valley Police) along with neighbouring Thames Valley teams OxSAR (Oxfordshire) and BSAR (Buckinghamshire) SEBEV also works with Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs who provide trained search dogs to assist them in missing person searches.
SEBEV Search & Rescue is always recruiting for operational members and also admin support roles such as PR or fundraising that would suit somebody who wants to be involved but doesn’t want to be a fully operational Search Technician. Full training is given and the team meets at their HQ on the Wokingham/Bracknell border every Thursday evening.
