Lynn Davies Marathon

PRESS RELEASE

SEBEV Search & Rescue Team (Berkshire)

Date: 31-03-11

SEBEV Ref: 310311-1

Lynn Davies, wife of SEBEV member Simon will be running the London Marathon this month in aid of SEBEV Search & Rescue.

Lynn says “I am running the London Marathon to raise the profile of SEBEV and the Association of Lowland Search and Rescue, I also want to raise as much as possible to enable them to continue their invaluable work. My target is to complete the race in under 3:40”

Lynn went on to say “Completing the 26.22 miles is not much compared to the amount of miles that SEBEV members cover in a typical year with their training and search operations“

Berkshire based SEBEV Search & Rescue is a UK registered charity (no. 1046861) and has been providing services to the Berkshire and Thames Valley communities since 1980. They are the oldest lowland Search & Rescue team in the UK. The main functions of the team are to assist Thames Valley Police in the search for missing persons (such as children and the elderly) in Berkshire and the surrounding counties, and also to provide support for the local authorities and the statutory emergency services during civil emergencies in the area. The team, based at Easthampstead Park in Wokingham, is available 24 hours a day to search for missing persons. The team is made up wholly of unpaid volunteers who manage their time with search & rescue around work and family commitments.

SEBEV Search & Rescue is always recruiting for operational members and also admin support roles such as PR or fundraising that would suit somebody who wants to be involved but doesn’t want to be a fully operational Search Technician. Full training is given and the team meets at their HQ on the Wokingham/Bracknell border every Thursday evening.

SEBEV provides 4x4 Civil Resilience support in Dec
Monday, 27 December 2010 13:04

SEBEV Search & Rescue Team had a busy weekend due to the recent snow fall.

The team were asked to provide 4x4 support on behalf of Oxfordshire Emergency Planners over the week end of 18 & 19 December. The heavy snow south of Oxford meant care workers and hospital staff from the John Radcliffe needed transport to work from homes in Wantage, Didcot and Ashton under Wychwood. Late on Saturday evening two nurses were transported to the hospital and on Sunday a care worker was taken to visit a patient.

Over 267 miles were covered during the period.

Chris Currey, SEBEV Emergency Planning Liaison Officer said "Whilst we are primarily a Search & Rescue team we have also been providing Civil Contingencies support to the Thames Valley council authorities as well as the statutory emergency services since 1980"

UKLSI offers excellent SAR courses in highly specialist subjects such as Search Control & Missing Person Behaviour and we are very pleased to send our members. I am also very pleased that some of our members were involved in the serch on the Saturday night. The chairman of WilSAR stated that a undoubtedly a life was saved that night"
