Established in 1980 Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue (SEBEV) is the oldest Lowland Search & Rescue & Civil Contingency support team in the United Kingdom.


Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue (SEBEV) (pronounced 'see-bev') is a UK Search and Rescue team based in Berkshire and provides services to Thames Valley Police and Civil Contingency Support services to the Emergency Planning departments of various local authorities in Thames Valley. Our members are unpaid volunteers and SEBEV SAR is a registered charity.

Our primary role is to provide specialist resources to Thames Valley Police to assist in the Search & Rescue of vulnerable missing people in Berkshire.

SEBEV SAR was one of the founder teams for Lowland Search and Rescue in the UK along with our sister team, Bucks SAR and is a member team of the Association of Lowland Search & Rescue (ALSAR) responsible for the Royal County of Berkshire

  • 16th Aug - Callout for female dementia sufferer in the Bracknel area. Misper located by family a short time later
  • 6th Aug - Callout for female despondent missing from hospital in the Slough Area
  • 1st Aug - Callout for male with severe dementia from Ascot area. Male located safely by member of the team
  • 24th July - Callout to assist OxSAR with missing male dementia sufferer - Male located by police next day
  • 21st July - Callout to assist OxSAR with missing despondent female - located safe and well
  • 13th Jul - Continuation of search from 12th - Misper located alive by dog team
  • 12th Jul - Continuation of search from 11th July
  • 11th Jul - Callout to assist HantSAR for missing dementia male
  • 8th Jun - Callout to Slough for missing 28yr old male with learning dificulties

About Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue (SEBEV)

 

SEBEV Control VehicleBerkshire Lowland Search and Rescue (SEBEV SAR) is a registered charity and has been providing services to Berkshire & Thames Valley communities since 1980. The main functions of the team are to assist Thames Valley Police in the search for missing persons (such as children and the elderly) in Berkshire and the surrounding counties, and also to provide support for the local authorities and the statutory emergency services during civil emergencies in the area.

The original meaning of SEBEV was South East Berkshire Emergency Volunteers however the full title was dropped in 1994 and the team is now known simply as SEBEV Search & Rescue in order to better reflect our primary role. The team is sometimes referred to as Berkshire Search & Rescue in the media, although this is not our correct name.

The team, based at Easthampstead Park Conference Centre in Wokingham, Berkshire is available 24 hours a day to search for missing persons. The team mainly covers the County of Berkshire, having a close relationship with Thames Valley Police and responding to their requests. The team also assists other SAR teams in neighbouring counties, and likewise other teams will assist SEBEV SAR, in large or prolonged searches. The team has it’s own fully equipped Incident Control Vehicle and an Incident Support Vehicle plus all equipment necessary for Rescue and First Aid purposes.

The SEBEV SAR team is made up wholly of volunteers who manage their time with SEBEV SAR around work and family commitments. New members must undergo a 3 month training programme and successfully complete a Basic Search Techniques course before they can go operational. All necessary training is provided to each member to equip them with the skills required
